May - Marvellous modern dance
The theme for this month is modern dance as part of the recent celebration of Dance Week (4–10 May).
The history of the Australian Dance Theatre, the first Australian modern dance company, founded and directed by Elizabeth Cameron Dalman OAM, is explored in a new article on modern dance.
Modern dance was part of modernism. A new article discusses how Australians developed new forms of expression as well as the ideal of the fit, healthy body, which was depicted in new ways.
A key event this month is International Museum Day on 18 May. This is an opportunity to consider and explore the range of museums in Australia including art museums, Indigenous Keeping Places and living heritage centres.
Museums and others are invited to demonstrate their partnerships with local and state governments to bid for $60 million worth of funding for heritage projects through
the Department of Education, Employment and Workplace Relations (DEEWR) by 22 May.
