Smart March – Adaptation and transformation
Adaptation to Australian environments has contributed to transformations across both Australia's flora and fauna and also the lifestyle of modern Australian society.
Adaptation created a unique new expression of culture just as much as the natural adaptation of the platypus created unique qualities in its species. Charles Darwin was moved to comment that the creation of species was surely the result of a single Hand. How else could two separate species that live on different continents come to use the same ingenious artificial contrivance?
The relationship between adaptation and contrivance is explored with smart textiles in the new age of electronic culture or eCulture where fashion, art, design and technology intersect. Smart fashion takes on a new meaning when smart frocks combine with interactive textiles and cyber jewellery. A new culture of design is transforming and transmuting with diverse therapeutic benefits across society.
