Both Easter and ANZAC Day fall in April this year, as do school holidays in most states. ANZAC Day is celebrated on 25 April every year in Australia, commemorating courage and mateship as well as the sacrifice of Australian lives in war time. This is also the busiest time of year for travel within Australia. Many Australians venture off during this period to enjoy Australia's natural beauty and rich diversity.

Melbourne International Comedy Festival - Melbourne

This year's Melbourne International Comedy Festival, now in its 20th year, has a record number of acts - more than 220 from Australia and overseas, including Melbourne comedians Greg Fleet, Judith Lucy and Corrinne Grant. The festival runs from 12 April - 7 May in the city and surrounds.

Accidental Death Of An Anarchist - Perth

Nobel Prize winner Dario Fo's comedy Accidental Death of an Anarchist is a satirical response to serious events - Italy's politically turbulent 1960s. In this new adaptation, Black Swan Theatre Company will give Fo's gag-fest a strongly Australian accent at the Playhouse Theatre in Perth from 22 April - 6 May.

'Rennie Ellis: Aussies All' - exhibition - Canberra

'Rennie Ellis: Aussies All' is a celebration of the life and work of the late Australian photographer Rennie Ellis. Melbourne-based Ellis was drawn to people who displayed an enthusiasm for life from the late 1960s right up to his death in 2003. The exhibition, which displays over 100 images drawn from the Rennie Ellis Photographic Archive in Melbourne, is at the National Portrait Gallery, in Canberra from 21 April - 27 August. A selection of photos can also be viewed online.

Interior Design Awards - national

The 2006 Interior Design Awards were presented on 7 April in Sydney. The winner of the 2006 interior design award for excellence & innovation is Spatial Research Group, Faculty of Art & Design, Monash University for the Solivoid Project. Other winners and finalists are listed on the website. The Interior Design Awards promotes excellence in Australian design.

New funding for young documentary makers - national

Under the ABC TV & Australian Film Commission jtv docs initiative, a $300,000 fund is available to finance several one-hour or half-hour documentaries in 2006. jtv docs will be part of the ABC's planned cross platform jtv brand, due for roll out mid 2006. Program makers aged 35 and under are invited to apply in a competitive round. Submissions are due by Friday 12 May.

Ngapartji Ngapartji Theatre Arts Project - Online Pitjantjatjara Language Course

Ngapartji Ngapartji is a long term inter-generational language-based theatre arts project based in Alice Springs in which the audience is encouraged to learn Pitjantjatjara online beforehand. The commitment to a six-month online language course in Pitjantjatjara takes about one hour per week. Ngapartji Ngapartji will have its world premiere as a full scale production at Melbourne International Arts Festival in October 2006, followed by Perth in 2007. Enrolments for the language course are now open.
